I have a Windows 2003 Server Standard Edition with Service Pack 1 connected

to a 10mbit line. Everything works fine, web and sql... etc... only Windows

Update is giving me problems.

When I visit Windows Update and I select Custom or Express the green

progress bar keeps loading forever (I've tried it for hours).

When I click on the link (Upgrade to Microsoft Update. Automatically receive

updates for Windows, Office and more) on the right hand side) I am presented

with a welcome screen to the 'new windows update'. I click the Start Now

button, accept the license agreement and then I receive: [Error number:

0x80240036]

The website has encountered a problem and cannot display the page you are

trying to view. The options provided below might help you solve the problem.

I have tries to clear all temporary internet files and delete all the

objectx (the folder with activex components like flash etc.) But still no

luck.

I cannot remember when this first happend. I have been having this error for

at least weeks now.

How can I fix thus problem?

    • I installed the updates from the 14th of june manually by downloading them

and installing them. I then rebooted my machine and now the windows update

websites works again. I also removed the java runtime from my system before

the reboot and reinstalled a newer version after the reboot. So this also

could be part of the problem.

Try to download and install the patches manualy and reboot and see if it

works. If you still have problems try removing the java runtime and reboot

and see if this fixes the problem.

      Kind regards,

    • I had the same problem and i can confirm that is not the genuine

validation of windows. The only way to solve this problem was to

      update java runtime...
